From Utrecht to Vlodrop — a reset that began with a single consultation
Willem V. had spent a decade running on very little sleep and even less patience for his own body. What follows is not a before-and-after — it is the account, in his own words and his Vaidya's notes, of the fourteen days that changed how he starts his mornings.
Willem V., 46
Utrecht, Netherlands · 14-Day Panchakarma · Chronic stress, disrupted sleep, sluggish digestion
Where He Started
Willem came to MERU after a routine check-up that found nothing wrong, and a body that told a different story — restless nights, a stomach that never quite settled, and a mind that stayed switched on long after the workday ended. He had tried supplements, a stricter gym routine, and cutting out coffee. Nothing held.
"I didn't want another quick fix. I wanted someone to actually look at why," he said. "That's what the first conversation with my Vaidya was — not a treatment plan yet, just questions."
"The building, the forest, the stillness — it all did its part."
His Programme at MERU
At his opening consultation, Willem's Vaidya assessed his prakriti (constitution), current imbalances, sleep patterns, and digestion before proposing anything. He was placed on a 14-Day Panchakarma programme — a sequence of preparatory oleation (Snehana), herbal steam (Swedana), and cleansing therapies (Virechana and Basti), paired with a dosha-specific diet and a fixed daily rhythm (Dinacharya) of waking, meals, rest, and short walks in the grounds.
"Nothing about it felt generic," he said. "The oils used in my Abhyanga changed twice in two weeks, because my Vaidya was adjusting to how I was responding, not following a script."
How It Unfolded, Day by Day
Days 1–3 · Preparation
Daily Abhyanga and Swedana began gently, alongside a simplified diet to prepare his digestion. "The first two days I mostly slept," Willem said. "I hadn't realised how tired I actually was until there was nothing left to distract me from it."
Days 4–7 · Core Cleansing
Virechana therapy was administered under close supervision, followed by rest days built into the schedule. His Vaidya reviewed his response each morning before adjusting the following day's plan. "This was the hardest stretch, and also where I first noticed my digestion had gone quiet — no bloating, no discomfort after meals."
Days 8–11 · Rebuilding
Basti therapy and Shirodhara were introduced, alongside a gradual return to fuller meals. "By day nine I slept eight hours without waking once — something I hadn't tracked because I'd stopped expecting it to happen."
Days 12–14 · Integration
His final sessions focused on grounding routines he could sustain at home — morning oil self-massage, meal timing, and a wind-down ritual before sleep. "My Vaidya didn't just send me home with a treatment I'd received. She sent me home with a routine I could keep."
His Reflections at Day 14
Sleep
Restless → Deep
Digestion
Sluggish → Balanced
Energy
Depleted → Steady
Mind
Scattered → Still
“
I came to MERU thinking I needed rest. I left understanding I needed a rhythm — and that the rhythm was something I could actually keep once I got home.
— Willem V., 14-Day Panchakarma
Vaidya's Note
Willem's case reflected a pattern we see often in guests carrying long-term stress — an aggravated Vata affecting both digestion and sleep. Panchakarma addressed this at its root rather than managing symptoms individually, and his fourteen-day protocol was adjusted three times based on daily response. What he takes home matters as much as what happened here: a sustainable Dinacharya, not a memory of two weeks of treatment.
Your own journey starts with a conversation
A Vaidya consultation is the first step — to understand what your body actually needs before any programme is proposed.
