The Health Centre stands on ground that has belonged to Maharishi's work since 1984 — a campus purchased two years after MERU itself was founded, and Maharishi's own home for the last eighteen years of his life. It remains a resident community today, where Maharishi Vedic Pandits recite live, daily — a tradition UNESCO recognises as a masterpiece of oral and intangible heritage.
In the same building complex sits MCPHI — the Maharishi College of Perfect Health International — the body that sets and monitors worldwide quality standards for the practice of Maharishi AyurVeda. Very few wellness centres anywhere can say the standards body is next door.
Ayurveda is one of humanity's great treasures. It is not simply a way of treating disease, it is a profound science of life: a science of balance, of prevention, of purification, rejuvenation and harmony with natural law.
Dr Tony Nader — at the opening of the Health Centre, 23 April 2026
The Health Centre opened in April 2026. Panchakarma has been given here since 2012.
Since 23 April 2026.
From 2012 to 2018 we ran a Panchakarma centre at Sint Odilienberg, a few kilometres from here, open to anyone who wanted to come.
When it closed in 2018 the treatments continued for the community living at MERU.
What is new is the building. Most of the team remained at MERU, contributing to the richness of experience in this field.
A larger Health Centre is planned and will be built over the coming years. Rather than wait for it, we made room for a smaller one on the ground floor of the apartment building completed here in February 2026.
MERU is an organisation, not only a place. It was founded in Switzerland in 1975 and moved to this estate in the Netherlands, which was bought in 1984.
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi lived here from 1990 until his passing in 2008, and the international Transcendental Meditation organisations have been administered from this address ever since.
The campus stands inside De Meinweg National Park, near the German border. Maharishi's Peace Palace is here, along with the peace parks and gardens, private residences belonging to members of the Transcendental Meditation community, and several new buildings.
The Maharishi College of Perfect Health International, which sets and monitors quality standards for the worldwide practice of Maharishi Ayurveda, has been based here since 2001, as are the departments for Maharishi Ayurveda Aroma Therapy and Light Therapy and the office for Maharishi Vastu, the architecture the Health Centre itself is built in.
MERU's own history is set out in full on meru.international/about.
In the early 1980s Maharishi worked with India's foremost Vedic scholars to restore Ayurveda to its complete classical form, with consciousness as its foundation.
In 1997, after examination, the President of the All India Ayurvedic Congress, Shiv Karan Sharma Chhangani, signed a statement describing the result:
“Maharishi Ayurveda makes the principles and practices of Ayurveda available in such a complete, systematic and authentic way that has rarely been achieved recently in India.”
Two Vedic Pandits are in residence on the campus, and they recite daily.
The tradition they maintain is Vedic chanting, transmitted orally for thousands of years.
This oral tradition was proclaimed by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
