Guest Journeys · Shirodhara
From Utrecht to Vlodrop — a third visit, and the session she still thinks about weeks later

Where It Began
Elke hadn't booked Shirodhara for her first two stays at MERU — her Vaidya had kept it back. "She told me the first time that my mind needed somewhere calmer to land before it would mean anything," Elke said. "I didn't really understand that until this visit."
By her third stay, four days of Abhyanga and a settling diet had already begun to change something. "I wasn't finishing every sentence in my head before I'd said it out loud anymore. That's when she said I was ready."
Inside the Session
01
"I lay down expecting it to switch me off immediately. It didn't. My shopping list, an email I hadn't sent — all still there," Elke said. "Nobody had told me that part was normal."
02
"At some point I noticed I was following the oil instead of my own thoughts. I couldn't tell you when that happened — only that it had."
03
"I genuinely don't know if fifteen minutes passed or forty. My Vaidya told me after that this is where most people stop performing 'relaxed' and actually arrive at it."
04
"The oil stopped and I wanted to sit straight up. My Vaidya's hand was already on my shoulder — 'not yet.' I understood why about ten seconds later."

"I've had a lot of massages in my life. I've never had anything switch my thoughts off like that did — not during, but for days afterward."
Elke H. · Said Three Days After Her Session
What Changed for Her
Before the Session
"A mind that wouldn't settle, even on holiday"
Waking at 3am, thoughts already running
A jaw she didn't know she was clenching
"Switched on" long after there was any reason to be
→
Three Days Later
"The first evening in months I wasn't planning tomorrow at dinner"
Slept through, two nights running
Noticed her jaw was soft, unprompted
"Quiet enough to hear myself think again"
Vaidya's Note
Elke's Vata was aggravated enough on her first visit that Shirodhara alone wouldn't have held. We built to it deliberately — Abhyanga and a grounding diet first, so her nervous system had somewhere calmer to arrive. Given at the right point, the effect tends to outlast the session by days rather than hours, which is exactly what she described.
What We Told Her Afterward
To wash her hair before dinner — the oil is thorough by design.
To keep the rest of the day undemanding, and not to plan anything she'd need to think hard about.
Best chosen with a Vaidya, not a menu
A short consultation tells you whether Shirodhara fits your constitution now, or whether — like Elke's — it lands better a few days into a longer programme.
